This is an A-Z of some of the best-known actors in Wales;

 

Aneurin Barnard, star of stage and both big and small screen. His film appearances include Citadel, Ironclad and The Truth About Emanuel.


Rob Brydon, comedian, impressionist and TV presenter, Rob also starred in the hit TV show Gavin and Stacey, which was filmed in south east Wales


The late Richard Burton was a lead actor in many films including Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and Where Eagles Dare. He was nominated 7 times for an Oscar but never won one.


Julie Christie starred in Doctor Zhivago in the 1960s and more recently Troy, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.


Gareth David-Lloyd is probably best known for his role of  Ianto Jones in Torchwood but he's also appeared in many TV programmes.


Taron Edgerton - star of Kingsman: The Golden Circle; Eddie the Eagle and Legend.


Tom Ellis - Born in 1978 Tom has had roles in Lucifer (2015) and Buffalo Soldiers (2001).


Luke Evans, The Hollywood A-lister has had lead roles in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies Immortals as Bard, Fast & Furious 6, 7 and 8, Dracula Untold, The Girl on the Train and Beauty and the Beast and TV series The Alienist.. 


Ioan Gruffudd came to international attention as Fifth Officer Harold Lowe in the film Titanic. He is probably best known for his role in Hornblower, the made-for-TV films based on C.S. Forester's novels.


Sir Anthony Hopkins enrolled at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff from which he graduated in 1957. Hopkins is best known for his portrayal of Hannibal Lecter in Silence of the Lambs, more recently as Odin in the Marvel Thor films and Dr Robert Ford in the TV series Westworld. He has won an Academy Award, three BAFTA Awards, two Emmys, and he was knighted in 1993.


Andrew Howard's acting credits include Limitless, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and The Hangover Part II.


Rhys Ifans has had major roles in Notting Hill, The Amazing Spider-Man and Mr. Nobody.


Iwan Rheon is best known for his roles playing Ramsey Bolton in the popular TV series Game of Thrones and Simon Bellamy in the series Misfits.


Craig Roberts star of Red Oaks and  22 Jump Street.


Matt Ryan star of Layer Cake, Assassin's Creed IV and American TV series Constantine.


Matthew Rhys - films include Fakers, Love and Other Disasters. He's played Kevin Walker in the hit US TV show Brothers and Sisters and Philip Jennings in the Americans. He starred as Welsh poet Dylan Thomas in the Edge of Love alongside Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller.


John-Rhys Davies - Best known for his roles in Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981) Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) as more recently as  Gimli the dwarf in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. He has also had leading roles in a host of other films and shows such as Sliders, The Untouchables and The Shannara Chronicles.


Erin Richards - from Penarth, Wales, Erin has starred in Gotham (2014), The Quiet Ones (2014) and Open Grave (2013).


Michael Sheen - film credits include Frost/Nixon, Underworld, Kingdom of Heaven, Midnight in Paris and The Queen.


Jessica Sula was born in Gorseinon, Swansea. She has made her name in the TV series Split (2016), Honeytrap (2014) and Skins (2007).


Catherine Zeta Jones won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for portraying Velma Kelly in the 2002 film adaptation of Chicago.
