Champions League Finals Cardiff

What a weekend of football and Wales put on a great show according to the UEFA President

The Galácticos vs Vecchia Signora, the most decorated Spanish team of all time vs the most decorated Italian team of all time and both National champions this year. The game did not disappoint for entertainment, but Real eventually pulled away in the second half winning:

Real Madrid C.F  4  - 1  Juventus F.C

at the National Stadium of Wales, 3 June 2017, Cardiff.

And it was

Paris Saint-Germain 0-0 Olympique Lyon

in the Women’s Champions League Final at Cardiff City Stadium, 1 June 2017. Lyon won in a dramatic penalty shootout.

The Events - the party atmosphere in the fan zone was really something special.

Things to do in Cardiff

The two-time European City of Sport not only hosted its first Champions League Finals, but it it was the first time that both the men’s and women’s winners won the double, with Real Madrid and Lyon as defending champions. It was also the first all French final in the women’s match. Did you know Wales has formed a great reputation for big sporting events? We have hosted the Ryder Cup, UEFA Super Cup final, Ashes Test Cricket and World Rugby fixtures in recent years with the World Volvo Ocean Race coming to our shores in May/June 2018.

Of all the teams to make it to the final it was extraordinary that some of Wales’ greatest footballers have close ties. Gareth Bale (right), was the most expensive player in the World when he signed for Madrid in 2013 and John Charles was also bought for a British record fee of £65,000 in 1957 for Juventus. He went on to become one of, if not their greatest foreign footballer. Ian Rush (left), our record goal scorer, also spent a year in Juventus and he was the official ambassador for the final. Bale has now lifted the trophy 3 times for Real Madrid.

Bale is just one of Wales class acts:

Thank you to all of the fans from all four teams! You were simply amazing and we hope you return.
