When it comes to discovering the latest thing in the worlds of music and art, often students really are the masters.
It’s this maxim that’s at the heart of Cardiff’s fantastic Immersed Festival. Taking place on 22 March, the unique one-day festival is organised and overseen by the students from the University of South Wales, and spans everything from music and theatre to art and fashion.
Spread across four stages at Cardiff’s cavernous Tramshed venue, the music portion of the festival will feature headline performances from Brighton-based rap duo Frankie Stew & Harvey Gunn, fresh from their successful Australia and New Zealand tour, as well as Manchester electro-pop heroes Porij, and DJ Douvelle19, who will be spinning his unique brand of garage-inspired dance music. Alongside these acts will be a roster of up-and-coming bands from South Wales and beyond that are tipped by the student organisers to do big things in the future.

To complement the main event at Tramshed on 22 March, Immersed 2025 will feature a month-long celebration of creativity, showcasing film screenings, art installations, fringe gigs, and the Immersed TV broadcast, kicking off in early March.
Along with offering memorable evenings of entertainment, the festival, which is now in its seventh year, will also focus on providing an educational element to young people looking to get a start in the entertainment industry. To this end, a series of free workshops led by industry experts will be put on, with discussions on everything from sustainability to lightning. In addition, over 40 exhibitors will showcase their opportunities at the Creative Industries Careers & Network Fair on 20 March.
Speaking about the festival, Huw Stephens, BBC Radio DJ and recipient of an honorary doctorate from the University of South Wales said, 'Immersed has become a welcome addition to the live music scene in Wales. Its focus on talent, creativity and production is invaluable, and its work with students in nurturing their community is highly successful. The event itself is professionally delivered, with a special experience for those involved.'
Immersed is of course just one of many music festivals taking place in Wales, which range from the sustainability-focused Green Gathering near Chepstow, to the delightful Brecon Jazz Festival.
Tickets for the one-day Immersed Festival on Saturday 22 March are on sale now, priced at £23.75 for the general public and £18.15 for students.
