Delegates representing Wales at SEMICON India 2024 welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he visited their stall on day one of the conference.
SEMICON seeks to build on India’s success as a rising player in the global semiconductor industry, with global delegates invited to explore opportunities to collaborate on future projects.
In an address on the first day of the three-day conference, Prime Minister Modi spoke of India’s role in furthering the global semiconductor industry.
The CSconnected cluster in south Wales offers companies an end-to-end opportunity to service the growing global demand for compound semiconductor enabled technologies, worth a projected £230 billion by 2024. Semiconductor cluster representatives are present at SEMICON to promote future partnerships with industry in India.
Richard Shaddick, Senior Delivery Manager for International Relations, Trade and Invest Economy, Treasury and Constitution Group at Welsh Government said: “We have read with ķeen interest of the Indian government's ambitious plans to grow a world leading semiconductor ecosystem.
“With Wales signing the UK India Technology Security Initiative, this provides a platform to build closer links with the UK and Wales.
“Wales is one of five leading European semiconductor clusters, and the only one dedicated to compound semiconductor technologies.
“We are looking to explore collaborative research and development opportunities with a focus on power electronics, photonics and RF.
“In addition, we would like to explore opportunities to jointly develop skills and talent for the future, with industry and academic partners in India.”
