Anahtia Sharma - New Delhi, India - Cardiff University, MSc Psychology - Global Wales Postgraduate Scholarship
Anahita Sharma was searching for a place to study that is worlds apart from the home she’s always known in New Dheli.
And that’s exactly what she found in the people, dynamic city life, and awe-inspiring national parks that Wales has to offer.
“For those who enjoy partying and adventure, Wales offers an amazing nightlife and adventurous natural landscapes like Snowdon and Pen y Fan,” Anahita said. “For those who prefer tranquillity, Wales provides serene natural parks and calm landscapes perfect for peaceful enjoyment.”
Anahita found her opportunity to continue her education in Wales through a consultancy agency in India. After conducting her own research, she decided Cardiff was the place she wanted to study for her master’s degree in psychology.
She is one of the students who has received the Global Wales Postgraduate Scholarship, an initiative that offers scholarships worth up to £10,000 with the aim to support postgraduates to pursue a full-time master’s degree in Wales.
The scholarship was offered to Anahita on behalf of the Global Wales Programme, a partnership between Universities Wales, ColegauCymru, Welsh Government, British Council Wales and Medr, funded by Taith.
Anahita’s favourite thing about Wales is the perfect balance it offers for anyone coming to live or visit.
She said: “Studying in Wales has been one of the most transformative experiences of my life. As an international student, it offered me the opportunity to explore a new world beyond my home country, all while being more affordable than many other European destinations.”
Along with the vibrant culture Anahita quickly found herself immersed in; she said it was the people who not only welcomed her but went to great lengths to support her that really convinced her she’d made the right decision.
“The people of Wales are incredibly warm and friendly, always ready to help without hesitation,” she said.
Anahita reflects on her time in Wales as “truly wonderful”.
She believes that the networking events hosted by Global Wales were invaluable for both learning and cultural exchange, allowing her to engage with an international community that celebrated diverse cultures within Wales.
The scholarships are an opportunity for Wales to offer international students a world class education alongside a unique and culturally rich experience.
“Overall, studying here has been transformative, and I am extremely grateful for everything it has taught me.”
