2024 marks the year of Wales in India and five firms – including North Wales-based Ruth LeeEco BunkerCricedNPTC Group of Colleges, and Cardiff Academy – all made the trip to seek potential new avenues of trade.

The goal of the recent trade mission to Mumbai and Bengaluru, which took place in May, was to help Welsh businesses improve on already-strong links with India and look at potential future export opportunities.

Wales In India has been showcasing an exciting calendar of events across Wales and India, with more still to come as the year progresses.

As part of a comprehensive programme to support exporters, the objective of the trade mission was to help Welsh businesses build on and establish new links across India and progress discussions on potential export opportunities.

“Wales has a strong industrial heritage that has shaped our confident, creative and ambitious economy of today. We have strength in advanced manufacturing, creative industries, energy and environment, life sciences, and technology which Welsh businesses are exporting across the globe” stated a Welsh Government spokesperson.


Looking to foster new trade and investment opportunities between the two nations, the aim of this year is to champion and build on our cultural, commercial and sporting connections as well as strengthen our academic and healthcare collaborations.

 

The trade mission delegates who travelled to Mumbai and Bengaluru included:

 

  • Ruth Lee, based in North Wales, is the world’s leading manufacturer and provider of life-like manikins and training aids, used by rescue training experts in over 40 countries across the globe.
    The company was recently recognised for its excellence in innovation, with its Pool Rescue Training Manikin winning the most prestigious business award in the country, The King’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation.

 

  • Eco Bunker produce and sell sustainable products and services for the golf and landscaping sectors.
    Whether it’s Kingsbarns, host of the Dunhill Cup, or the Ryder Cup at Marco Simone, EcoBunker consistently delivers innovative, effective and low maintenance solutions for the best golf courses in the world.

 

  • Criced, the Welsh name for cricket, is launching to fill a gap in the educational system that will enable school children aged 10- 17 a pathway to experience a top-quality Welsh education leveraging the medium of cricket to enrich their academic journey and cultural experience.
    Criced will connect pupils in India to potential exchange programmes with selected Welsh schools. They profile the pupil and recommend best fit; make necessary arrangements between schools to facilitate to advise on longer term opportunities.
