In 2008 Wales became the world's first Fairtrade Nation, and we are proud to lead the world by example. Local authorities, schools, communities and towns across the country are gaining fair trade status, learning about the importance of fair trade and making a big difference across the globe. Fair trade is more than tea, coffee, chocolate and bananas. With more than 4,500 products available on the market, including olive oil, beauty products, clothing and gold. It's easier now than ever before to choose fair trade and it’s a choice Wales will continue to make.
Fair trade is sustainable and has been shown to increase standards of living and reduce risk and vulnerability for farmers and workers. This helps them to plan; a better income means more money to buy food and the ability to invest in generating other food sources, such as growing new crops.
